This is one of my favorite bamboo houses. It was created by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. The materials are bamboo, glass, slate, and rice paper. It was inspired by the Great Wall of China. Bamboo is a rapidly renewable resource and was used here as both a structural and non-structural element.
"The most important thing in Japanese tradition is the respect of the environment. In Japan we have a very beautiful landscape and we don't like to establish a strong monument, we always try to combine environment and architecture. Architecture becomes very quiet." - Kengo Kuma
My three favorite things about this home:
1 - "peak-a-boo" light effect of the bamboo walls
2 - the gorgeous kitchen (looks like Boffi?)
3 - the slate floors
Just curious . . . what's your favorite part?
